Tulsa County, OK Fence Regulations: Material Restrictions (2026)

Under Tulsa Zoning Code Title 42 §90.090, residential districts (RS, RE, RD, RM) allow wood privacy fences, vinyl, decorative metal (wrought iron, tubular steel), masonry, and chain-link. Chain-link is prohibited in front yards of RS and RE districts within the designated Arts District and Pearl District overlay zones. Barbed wire and razor wire are prohibited in all residential zones per §90.090(D); permitted only in Industrial (IL, IM, IH) and Agricultural (AG) districts with 6-foot minimum height. Electric fences are limited to agricultural and industrial zones. Tulsa HOAs in Midtown (Maple Ridge, Yorktown), South Tulsa (South Shores, Broken Arrow Southern Hills) and master-planned communities frequently impose material restrictions stricter than city code, often banning chain-link entirely and requiring wood or wrought iron. Finished or 'good' side must face outward toward the street or neighbor per TRO §90.090(F). Wind-load engineering matters in Tornado Alley — IRC-amended Oklahoma code requires fences over 6 feet to be engineered for 115 mph wind gusts.
