Full Breakdown

Under CMC Section 30-44.5, Compton allows fence height adjustments along residential property lines to bring properties into conformance with surrounding fences. The Architectural Review Board may approve height adjustments not exceeding 1.5 feet to match the average fence height along neighboring properties within 150 feet of the proposed fence. Along major corridors, adjustments up to 2 feet may be approved. California's Good Neighbor Fence Act (Civil Code Section 841) also applies, requiring adjacent property owners to share equally in the cost of maintaining a boundary fence unless otherwise agreed. Exemptions from fence regulations apply to fences required by law, chain link fences enclosing school grounds, and public parks and playgrounds.
