Under NYS Residential Code Appendix G (effective May 12, 2020), residential pool barriers must be 48 inches minimum, have a bottom gap no greater than 2 inches, self-closing and self-latching gates that open away from the pool with latch at least 40 inches above grade, and chain-link mesh no larger than 2ΒΌ inches. Pool alarms meeting ASTM F2208 are required on pools built or substantially modified after Dec 14, 2006 (NY Executive Law Β§387(14); 19 NYCRR Β§1228.2). Temporary 48-inch barriers required during construction; permanent fence within 90 days.
