Katy property owners must keep lots free of rubbish, brush, and other debris under Chapter 6 (Ordinance 01023). Weeds taller than nine inches, or any vegetation harboring rodents and pests, are declared a nuisance subject to abatement.
Chapter 6 of the Katy Code requires owners to maintain lots free from rubbish, brush, weeds, and other filth. Weeds are defined as rank, uncultivated vegetable growth that has either grown more than nine inches in height or, regardless of height, creates an unsanitary condition or harbors rodents, vermin, or other disease-carrying pests. Code Enforcement Officers respond to complaints, issue notices, and may have the city abate the nuisance by mowing or clearing. Costs are billed to the owner and may become a lien. Residents can submit a Code Enforcement Complaint Form online or call the Building Permits division at (281) 391-4830.
Sanitation and vegetation violations are punishable by fines up to $2,000 per offense. The city may also abate the nuisance and charge cleanup costs back to the property owner.
