Katy prohibits the manufacture, sale, possession, and discharge of all fireworks inside city limits under Article 5.07 of its Code of Ordinances. Violators face fines from $25 to $200 per offense and the Fire Marshal will seize and destroy any fireworks found.
Article 5.07 declares fireworks within Katy a public nuisance. The ban covers manufacturing, assembling, storing, transporting, receiving, keeping, selling, offering for sale, possessing with intent to sell, using, discharging, igniting, detonating, firing, or otherwise setting off any fireworks. The ordinance does not apply to areas under limited purpose annexation, and the unincorporated Greater Katy area is regulated by Harris and Fort Bend Counties separately. Residents wanting to celebrate with fireworks must travel outside city limits to a licensed retailer and discharge them on private property where allowed. Report violations to Katy Police at (281) 391-4848.
Fines range from a minimum of $25 to a maximum of $200 per violation. The Fire Marshal is required to seize and safely destroy any fireworks found within the city.
