Quiet hours in Katy, TX — also called the noise ordinance, nighttime noise rules, or residential quiet time — define the hours during which excessive noise is prohibited.
Katy's noise ordinance creates a prima facie nighttime quiet period from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. for amplified sound and prohibits any noise that disturbs neighbors at any hour.
Article 8.04 of the Code of Ordinances makes it unlawful to make any loud, unnecessary, or unusual noise that annoys, disturbs, injures, or endangers the comfort, repose, health, peace, or safety of others within city limits. For radios, stereos, musical instruments, and similar devices, operation between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. in such a manner as to be plainly audible at a distance of 50 feet from the building, structure, or vehicle is prima facie evidence of a violation. The general prohibition applies 24 hours a day; the 11 p.m.-7 a.m. window applies a stricter 50-foot audibility standard.
Police respond to complaints, may issue warnings or citations under Article 8.04, and Class C misdemeanor fines up to $500 per offense may apply.
