Texas counties cannot zone LP-gas storage, so household propane rules come from the state and cities. The Texas Railroad Commission licenses LP-gas activity statewide, and Corpus Christi enforces the International Fire Code (based on NFPA 58) for tanks and cylinders.
Propane (LP-gas) is regulated in Texas primarily by the Railroad Commission's LP-Gas Safety rules (16 TAC Ch. 9), which govern installation, container siting and licensing statewide, plus NFPA 58 as adopted. Unincorporated Nueces County cannot add its own storage or setback ordinance. Inside Corpus Christi, the adopted International Fire Code sets limits on cylinder quantities, distances from buildings and property lines, and prohibits storing LP-gas cylinders inside dwellings. Homeowners installing or moving a tank should use a Railroad Commission-licensed installer. Fire-marshal permits may apply to larger tanks.
No county penalty. Railroad Commission enforces LP-gas safety statewide; city fire-code violations carry municipal fines and correction orders.
