North Dakota allows constitutional concealed carry for residents 18 and older under NDCC 62.1-04, while still offering optional permits for reciprocity with other states.
NDCC 62.1-04 governs concealed carry of firearms in North Dakota. Since 2017, residents who are at least 18 years old and legally eligible to possess a firearm may carry concealed without a permit, commonly called constitutional carry. The state continues to issue Class 1 and Class 2 concealed weapon licenses for residents who want reciprocity in other states. Carry remains prohibited in specific locations including liquor establishments, gaming sites, public schools, churches without permission, and publicly owned buildings posted against carry. Local governments cannot impose additional concealed carry restrictions beyond the state statute.
Carrying concealed in a prohibited location is generally a class A misdemeanor on first offense and a class C felony on subsequent violations. Carrying while ineligible can result in felony firearms charges. Violations of permit conditions can lead to license revocation under NDCC 62.1-04-03.
