Arizona allows adults to keep loaded firearms in a vehicle without a permit. ARS section 13-3102 lets a Maricopa County driver carry a loaded handgun openly or concealed in the passenger compartment, including the glove box or center console, with limited posted-area exceptions.
Under ARS section 13-3102, a person twenty-one or older who is not a prohibited possessor may transport a loaded handgun anywhere in a vehicle, including unlocked compartments and on the seat. Persons aged eighteen to twenty may keep a loaded handgun in a vehicle if it is in a case, holster, scabbard, pack, or stored within the interior, per the same statute. Long guns may be carried loaded in vehicles statewide. Maricopa County has no separate vehicle storage rule, and ARS section 13-3108 preempts any attempt to add one. Standard exceptions apply to school grounds, posted public buildings, and federal facilities; community college and university parking lots have specific carve-outs under ARS section 12-781.
Vehicle carry by a prohibited possessor or by a person under twenty-one outside the case or compartment exception violates ARS section 13-3102, prosecuted as a misdemeanor or felony depending on circumstance.
