Cobb County Code Ch. 90 requires a free garage-sale permit from the Cobb Business License Office before each sale. Limited to 2 sales per household per calendar year. Signs only on your own property.
Cobb County Code of Ordinances Chapter 90, Article III regulates yard and garage sales (termed 'casual sales'). Each household in unincorporated Cobb must obtain a free permit from the Cobb County Business License Division (1150 Powder Springs St, Suite 400, Marietta; 770-528-8410) before holding a sale. Permits can be applied for online. Each household is limited to 2 sales per calendar year, each lasting no more than 3 consecutive days. Merchandise must be used personal property of the household β not commercially acquired inventory, which would constitute retail business requiring full occupation tax certificate. Advertising signs may be placed only on the property where the sale is held; signs in the public right-of-way, on utility poles, or at intersections are prohibited (Ch. 122 sign ordinance) and subject to removal.
Sale without permit: $100β$500 Ch. 90 citation. Signs in ROW or on poles: removed by county, $50β$250 per sign. Exceeding 2 sales/year: retail-business violation $250β$1,000.
