Arapahoe County, CO Garage & Yard Sales: Garage Sale Permits (2026)

Garage and yard sales in most Arapahoe County jurisdictions are permit-exempt for residential homeowners within frequency limits. Aurora City Code §46-451 does not require a permit for residential garage sales but limits frequency to 3 per calendar year, each no longer than 3 consecutive days. Centennial Municipal Code does not require permits for homeowner garage sales held within frequency limits (typically 3-4 per year). Littleton, Englewood, Greenwood Village, and unincorporated Arapahoe County similarly allow permit-free sales subject to frequency and signage rules. Sales must be limited to personal property; reselling new or commercially purchased merchandise converts the activity into an unlicensed retail business subject to home occupation zoning violations under Aurora UDO §146-5 and a sales tax license requirement. Signs are generally allowed on the property where the sale occurs but must comply with local sign codes (Aurora §94-280 prohibits off-premise signs in most ROW locations). HOAs in Aurora master-planned communities, Centennial subdivisions, and Cherry Hills Village often have additional CC&R restrictions on garage sale frequency and signage placement.
