Newport Beach, CA Garage & Yard Sales: Time Restrictions (2026)

Newport Beach Municipal Code Chapter 5.14 establishes permitted days and hours for garage sales at residential properties. Sales may only be conducted on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. No selling, displaying merchandise, or customer interaction may occur before 8:00 AM or after 5:00 PM. Setup activities including placing tables, racks, and merchandise in the front yard or driveway should be conducted in a manner that does not disturb neighbors during early morning hours. The city's general noise ordinance (NBMC Chapter 10.26) applies to setup and teardown activities, which means excessive noise before 7:00 AM may result in a separate noise complaint. At the end of each sale day (by 5:00 PM), all merchandise, tables, and signage must be moved indoors or to a location not visible from the street. Leaving garage sale items displayed in the front yard or driveway overnight between sale days may result in a property maintenance complaint. On the final day of the sale, all items must be cleared and the property returned to its normal appearance within 24 hours. Unsold items should not be left at the curb or on public property. Early-bird shoppers who arrive before 8:00 AM may be asked to return during permitted hours, and sellers are responsible for not conducting transactions outside the allowed timeframe.
