Los Angeles has no city ordinance regulating residential holiday inflatables. Size, lighting, and motor noise are not separately regulated, though general LAMC noise limits and front-yard structure rules in LAMC 12.22 C.20 still apply.
LAMC contains no provision specific to residential inflatable decorations. Three general frameworks indirectly apply. First, LAMC 41.40 noise (the general nuisance section) and LAMC 112.01 (sound from machinery and equipment) can be invoked if the inflator-motor noise crosses the 50 dBA residential limit at night. Second, LAMC 12.22 C.20 prohibits structures over 42 inches tall in required front-yard areas; large inflatables placed in a setback may technically violate this, though enforcement against temporary holiday displays is rare. Third, public right-of-way obstruction is prohibited under LAMC 56.08, so inflatables anchored on parkway strips or sidewalks can be removed. HOAs may impose CC&R limits under the Davis-Stirling Act.
Enforcement is complaint-driven. The most common citation is for inflator-motor noise after 10 pm under LAMC 112.01, with $250 citations escalating to a misdemeanor for repeat noise. Parkway encroachment under LAMC 56.08 results in removal orders.
