Anne Arundel County home occupation rules limit customer or client traffic to that not exceeding a typical residence. Regular client visits are not permitted as a standard home occupation. Special exceptions exist for limited-client service businesses.
Anne Arundel County's home occupation rules (Article 18) state that traffic to the home may not exceed what is typical for a residential property. This effectively prohibits service businesses with regular client appointments (tutoring, therapy, beauty services, music lessons) unless a special exception is obtained from the Board of Zoning Appeals. The special exception process considers impacts on neighborhood traffic, parking, and character. One-on-one instructional or professional services with occasional clients may be approved. Delivery vehicles making regular business deliveries may trigger code complaints from neighbors.
Excessive customer traffic: code enforcement notice. Continued violation: home occupation designation revoked.
