San Joaquin County Development Title 9 generally prohibits external signage for home occupations in residential zones. No signs advertising a home business may be visible from the street or neighboring properties.
SJC Development Title 9 establishes sign regulations for all zoning districts. Home occupations in residential zones are prohibited from displaying external business signage. No signs, banners, or commercial identifiers may be placed on the exterior of the residence, yard, fence, or parked vehicles to advertise the home-based business. This preserves the residential character of county neighborhoods. Sign regulations for commercial and industrial zones are more permissive and do not apply to residential home occupations. Contact Planning Division (209-468-3120) for specific sign standards in your zone.
