Contractors must verify status within three business days of hire, and failure to comply can result in contract termination and ineligibility for future public contracts. The statute is part of the Oklahoma Taxpayer and Citizen Protection Act of 2007, which also imposes penalties on businesses knowingly employing unauthorized workers. Private employers are encouraged but not generally required to use E-Verify, except when bidding on public contracts.
Failing to enroll in E-Verify, neglecting to verify new hires, or knowingly employing unauthorized workers may lead to contract loss, debarment, and additional civil penalties.
