Alabama Code Title 31 Chapter 13 requires every employer in the state to enroll in and use the federal E-Verify program to confirm employee work authorization.
Under the Beason-Hammon Alabama Taxpayer and Citizen Protection Act, codified at Code of Alabama Title 31 Chapter 13, every business employer in Alabama must enroll in and use the federal E-Verify system to verify the employment eligibility of each newly hired employee. State and local government contracts also require contractor and subcontractor E-Verify enrollment. Knowingly employing unauthorized workers can result in business license suspension or revocation. Employers must retain documentation of E-Verify use. The state Department of Homeland Security oversees compliance and complaint investigations.
Failure to use E-Verify or knowingly employing unauthorized workers can lead to business license suspension or revocation.
