Hoover's Zoning Ordinance (§9-1) regulates fence height by yard type. Front yard fences cannot exceed 4 feet and must not obstruct sight distance. Secondary front yard fences on corner/through lots may be up to 6.5 feet but cannot extend more than 4 feet above the abutting street centerline elevation.
Front yard fences are limited to 4 feet in height, must not obstruct intersection sight distance or access to fire hydrants, and must be constructed of vertical wood, metal, or vinyl balusters with at least 50% open spacing. Split rail fences are also permitted in front yards. Chain link and other wire fences are prohibited in front yards. Secondary front yard fences on corner/through lots have a maximum height of 6.5 feet when located at or beyond the front building setback line.
