Unincorporated Pierce County has no numeric lawn-height limit, but overgrown vegetation that harbors vermin, blocks sight lines, or becomes a fire or health hazard can be abated as a public nuisance under PCC Chapter 8.08, and noxious weeds must be controlled under RCW 17.10.140.
Pierce County Code sets no maximum grass or weed height for private lots in the unincorporated county. Enforcement runs through the public-nuisance abatement process in PCC Chapter 8.08. PCC 8.08.040 defines a public nuisance as any condition that 'unreasonably annoys, injures, or endangers the comfort, repose, health, or safety of others' — applied to overgrowth creating fire fuel or harboring pests. A separate enforceable duty covers noxious weeds: RCW 17.10.140 requires landowners to eradicate class A weeds and control listed class B and C weeds. The Noxious Weed Control Board (PCC Chapter 8.24) may abate at the owner's expense as a lien. Tall lawn grass alone is generally not a violation unless it becomes a nuisance or contains listed weeds.
A confirmed nuisance triggers a Notice of Violation and Abatement under PCC 8.08.080 with a deadline to abate; unabated conditions may be corrected by the County at the owner's cost. Weed orders let the Board abate at the owner's expense.
