Oceanside requires property owners to maintain vegetation and prevent overgrown conditions. Grass and weeds that create fire hazards, harbor vermin, or constitute blight are subject to code enforcement action.
Oceanside's code enforcement regulations require property maintenance including control of overgrown vegetation. Grass and weeds that exceed reasonable heights, create fire hazards, harbor vermin, or contribute to property blight may be cited. The Code Enforcement Division coordinates with the Fire Department for vegetation management in fire-prone areas. Property owners receive notice with a compliance deadline. Vacant lots have the same maintenance requirements as developed properties. The city may perform abatement on non-compliant properties and charge costs to the owner.
Non-compliance after notice results in city-performed abatement at the owner's expense. Costs may be secured by a lien. Code Enforcement: (760) 435-4500.
