Sacramento County Code §16.18.401 makes a yard a public nuisance if dead grass/weeds exceed 12 inches over more than 50% of the front or side yard visible from the street. Sacramento Metro Fire enforces a 4-inch summer fire-season standard.
SCC §16.18.401 (Nuisances Specified) declares it unlawful to allow grass, weeds, trees, debris or other vegetation that is overgrown onto a public right-of-way at least 12 inches, OR is completely dead, over 12 inches in height, and covers more than 50% of the front or side yard visible from any street. From June through fire season, Sacramento Metro Fire's weed-abatement program enforces a tighter 4-inch maximum on grass/weeds across the property under SCC Ch. 17.12.
First-pass notice to abate from Code Enforcement (typically 10-30 days). Failure to abate triggers a forced abatement at owner's expense, charged to the property tax bill at cost plus administrative fee.
