Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) operations are federally preempted under 49 USC 40103 and cannot be regulated by Mecklenburg County. CLT operates a voluntary noise abatement program with preferred runway use and noise-compatibility land-use planning administered by the airport authority.
The CLT Part 150 Noise Compatibility Study defines noise contours. Homes in the 65+ DNL contour may qualify for sound insulation. Complaints are filed through the CLT Noise Hotline at 704-359-4013. Overflight noise from Concord Regional and small airfields is also FAA-preempted. Contact Mecklenburg County at (704) 336-7600 for enforcement.
Contact your local code enforcement office for specific penalty information.
