Amplified music rules in Crown Point, IN — also called sound permit, PA system, or live music ordinances — set decibel limits, time-of-day restrictions, and when permits are required.
In unincorporated Lake County, Indiana it is unlawful at any hour to operate a radio, TV, musical instrument, amplifier or similar device so that it is plainly audible across property boundaries or through common partitions in a building (Code § 93.02(A)). Late-night parties face a separate 10 p.m.-8 a.m. limit.
Lake County Code § 93.02(A) makes it unlawful to operate 'radios, television sets, musical instruments, tape or record players, amplifiers, and similar devices' in a manner that is plainly audible across property boundaries or through partitions common to two or more persons in a building. This applies at any time of day, not just at night, so sustained amplified sound reaching a neighbor's property can be a violation regardless of hour. In addition, § 93.02(E) bars noisy parties or gatherings between 10:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. that give rise to noise plainly audible across property boundaries. Boundary decibel caps of § 93.03 (55 dBA in residential and commercial zones, at all times) also apply. This is the unincorporated-county rule.
Amplified sound plainly audible across a property line violates § 93.02(A) and is punished under general penalty § 10.99. Enforcement is by the Lake County Police Department, with citations filed in Lake Superior Court, County Division.
