Houston requires amplified sound permits for outdoor music within 300 feet of a residence. Permits allow up to 75 dBA. Options include Daily, Extended Daily, Annual, and Commercial Establishment permits issued by the ARA Department.
Chapter 30 requires any commercial establishment playing amplified sound outdoors or amplified sound appreciated outdoors within 300 feet of a residence to obtain a Commercial Establishment Permit. Permit types include: Daily Permit (single-day, 8 AM to 10 PM), Extended Daily Permit (multi-day up to 5 days, 8 AM to 10 PM), Annual Permit (12 months, non-commercial, 8 AM to 10 PM Sun-Thu, 8 AM to 11 PM Fri-Sat), and Commercial Establishment Permit (12 months, annual renewal). All permits allow amplified sound up to 75 dBA. Commercial establishments may not play outdoor amplified sound between 2:01 AM and 7:59 AM. Permits are issued by the Administration and Regulatory Affairs Department.
Up to $2,000 fine per violation. Permit may be suspended or revoked after two or more convictions within 36 months. Operating without a required permit is a separate offense.
