Commercial vehicles over 1-ton or specified GVWR generally cannot be parked in residential zones overnight across Allegheny County municipalities. Pittsburgh Zoning ยง914.07 and suburban codes enforce this.
Pittsburgh prohibits parking of commercial vehicles exceeding 9,000 pounds GVWR in residential districts except for active loading. Mt Lebanon Code ยง320 bans overnight commercial vehicle parking on residential streets. Bethel Park, Ross Township, and Penn Hills impose similar prohibitions typically keyed to vehicle weight or classification (e.g., vehicles with commercial plates, box trucks, semi-tractors). Construction vehicles on active project sites are generally exempt. Trailers without power units often treated as commercial in residential zones.
Zoning violations: 100 to 500 dollars per occurrence. Repeat violations: up to 1,000 dollars. Vehicles may be towed at owner expense.
