Commercial-vehicle parking in unincorporated Nevada County is governed primarily by state law rather than a dedicated, signed countywide ordinance. California Vehicle Code Section 22507 lets local authorities, by ordinance or resolution, restrict or prohibit parking on county roads with proper signage, and Section 22507.5 authorizes local agencies to prohibit or restrict parking of commercial vehicles with a manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 pounds or more in residential districts. Section 22500 prohibits stopping or parking that blocks travel lanes, intersections, driveways, or that otherwise obstructs traffic - which constrains where a large truck may legally stand on a rural county road. Heavy vehicles are also subject to posted weight limits and to County encroachment rules: any work, obstruction, or placement of objects within the county road right-of-way requires an Encroachment Permit from Public Works. Bridges, culverts, and driveway approaches built to County standards are engineered to carry a 40,000-pound legally loaded vehicle (Nevada County Code Section 16.10.040 design standards), but that is a structural design standard, not a parking authorization. Commercial use of a residential parcel is separately limited by the County's home-occupation and zoning rules.
