Residents may not paint or mark parish curbs themselves. No-parking curb markings and signs are established only by the parish's Department of Public Works traffic-engineering division; unauthorized curb markings are prohibited.
Jefferson Parish does not let property owners paint curbs to reserve parking or create no-parking zones. Curb markings, painted lines and no-parking designations are official traffic controls installed by the Department of Public Works traffic-engineering division, which also erects the signs required to make a restriction enforceable (Chapter 36). Parish code separately prohibits pasting, posting or painting unauthorized markings and advertisements on curbs and streets. A homeowner who paints a curb red to stop parking in front of the house has no legal authority to do so; enforcement follows only official, posted restrictions. Incorporated cities control their own curb markings.
Applying unauthorized curb markings is a code violation; only parish-installed and posted markings are enforceable for parking restrictions.
