Winston-Salem's UDO limits front-yard parking to one improved driveway strip up to ten feet wide, with total improved parking/driveway area capped at 30% of the front yard. Surfaces must be paved or gravel at least two inches deep with a defined edge. No parking on the lawn.
The Forsyth County-Winston-Salem UDO prohibits parking in the front yard except on one improved parking-and-driveway area no more than ten feet wide extending from the street to the closest wall of the dwelling. Additional continuous improved area is allowed, but total improved parking and driveway surface may not exceed 30% of the front yard area. 'Improved' means asphalt, concrete, brick, or suitable pavers, or gravel/crushed stone at least two inches deep bounded by a visible edge of landscape timbers or metal edging. Improved areas must be kept safe and sanitary and must not cause soil erosion or tree damage. Driveway aprons connecting to public streets require city/NCDOT approval.
Parking on an unimproved lawn or exceeding the 30% surface limit draws a Code Enforcement citation and tagging; unresolved violations can result in towing.
