San Joaquin County Development Title 9 establishes driveway and parking area standards in unincorporated areas. Vehicles must not obstruct the public right-of-way from residential driveways. Agricultural areas may have different access requirements.
SJC Development Title 9 sets parking area design standards for residential and non-residential uses in unincorporated areas. Residential parking areas must be paved or otherwise meet county surfacing standards in many zones. Vehicles stored in driveways must not encroach on the public right-of-way or obstruct traffic sightlines. Driveway access to county roads may require an encroachment permit from Public Works (209-468-3090). Rural and agricultural parcels may have gravel or unpaved driveways under different standards than standard residential zones. Contact Planning Division at (209) 468-3120 for zone-specific requirements.
Driveway obstructing right-of-way: citation. Unpermitted driveway access to county road: required encroachment permit.
