Stockton Development Code Chapter 16.64 requires that vehicles in front or street-side setback areas be parked only on a paved driveway, which is capped at 50% of the setback; parking on landscaped or unpaved areas is prohibited.
Under Stockton Municipal Code §16.64.090 (Parking in residential zoning districts), front and street-side setback areas may be used only for the temporary parking of motor vehicles (not storage), and no vehicle may be parked in those setback areas other than on a paved driveway. Paved driveways are limited to no more than 50% of the front and/or street-side setback area, consistent with SMC §16.56.030(A)(4) (General landscaping design standards). No parking is allowed in landscaped areas. At least 50% of the area required to be landscaped must consist of live plants and/or grass per SMC Chapter 16.56.
Front-yard or unpaved-surface parking is enforced by Stockton Code Enforcement as a Development Code violation. Notices of violation may demand compliance (removal of vehicle, restoration of landscaping) within a set period; continued non-compliance can escalate to administrative citation under SMC Chapter 1.44 with daily fines.
