Alpine County has no general code chapter banning overnight parking on all county roads, but its winter snow ordinance creates strict overnight and early-morning no-parking windows in the Bear Valley resort area. Sno-Park lots and state highways follow separate state rules.
There is no countywide ordinance that imposes a blanket overnight (for example, 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m.) parking ban on every county road. The clearest overnight-style restrictions are in the Bear Valley community under Chapter 10.12.050(C). For example, parallel parking on the south side of No Name Road is limited to one hour maximum between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. and is prohibited entirely from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m.; in other designated segments the time limits lift after 8:00 p.m. but the broader snow-day prohibitions in subsections (D) through (F) still apply on plow days (generally 9:00 a.m. to noon on alternating days, and specified afternoon windows in the parking lots). During snow conditions, Section 10.12.020's five-foot pavement-edge rule applies around the clock whenever snow is present on a county road right-of-way. Overnight parking at California Sno-Park lots requires a valid seasonal SNO-PARK permit (season runs November 1 to May 31); parking there without a permit is a Sno-Park violation listed at $94.50. On state highways through the county, overnight stopping is governed by the California Vehicle Code and Caltrans. Always check posted signs, which may impose local overnight limits the public works director has signed under 10.12.060.
Bear Valley and snow-condition overnight violations are infractions under Chapter 10.12.080 ($50/$100/$150 escalating). A Sno-Park violation is $94.50 (or proof of correction plus $10.00). Vehicles blocking plowing may be towed under 10.12.070 at the owner's expense.
