There is no countywide ordinance setting a blanket time limit for storing recreational vehicles, travel trailers, or boats on a private residence. Where a parcel sits, what zoning district it is in, and whether the RV is occupied are governed by Title 18 (Zoning) of the Alpine County Code rather than a dedicated parking chapter. The most concrete county rules affecting RVs are seasonal. Chapter 10.12 (Parking, Standing and Loading in Snow Conditions) prohibits parking or standing any vehicle within five feet of the edge of the roadway pavement on any county road during snow or snow-clearing conditions. In the Bear Valley community the chapter is far more specific: it designates Parking Lot A and a stretch of Creekside Drive for the parking of recreational vehicles, buses, and snowmobile trailers, and Section 10.12.050(H) restricts vehicles over twenty-four feet and any trailer (attached or unattached) to areas north of No Name Road on the westerly side of Creekside Drive and in the 'A' Parking Lot. On public state highways and at Sno-Park lots, Caltrans and California Vehicle Code rules apply. A snow-condition or Bear Valley parking violation is an infraction under Chapter 10.12.080, punishable by a fine of up to $50 (first), $100 (second within 12 months), and $150 (third within 12 months). Off-street RV storage that violates zoning is handled through Title 18 code enforcement, not a parking fine.
