Neither Hamilton County nor Tennessee bans simple overnight street parking. Chattanooga has no citywide overnight ban, but a vehicle left illegally on public property over 48 hours (or unattended over 10 days) is "abandoned" under City Code § 24-341 and can be tagged and towed.
There is no county or Chattanooga ordinance prohibiting ordinary overnight parking. In the city, overnight and long-term parking are shaped by Article X and by neighborhood permit zones (Division 8), which are enforced only during weekday daytime hours, not overnight. However, City Code § 24-341 defines an abandoned vehicle as one left unattended on public or private property more than ten (10) days, or left illegally on public property more than forty-eight (48) hours, and § 24-343 bars leaving junked vehicles on any street. Such vehicles can be removed. In the unincorporated county, TCA Title 55, Chapter 16 governs abandoned-vehicle removal. Cities such as East Ridge may set stricter overnight rules.
Abandoned or junked vehicles may be tagged, impounded and, after statutory notice, sold; Chattanooga violations of the abandoned-vehicle division carry a fine of not more than $50 per day (§ 24-349).
