Fort Collins bans parking oversized vehicles on public streets: anything over 6,000 pounds empty, over 20 feet long, over 8 feet wide, or any trailer, RV or semi. In unincorporated Larimer County, oversized vehicles belong on the private lot, not the road right-of-way.
Fort Collins Traffic Code Section 1214 makes it unlawful to park an oversized vehicle on public property, defining oversized as over 6,000 pounds empty weight, over 20 feet long, any motor coach, RV, trailer, semi-trailer or truck tractor, or any trailer-plus-vehicle combination exceeding 20 feet in length or 8 feet in width. Towing gear, bumpers and cargo racks are excluded when measuring length. Only active loading, unloading, and utility or street work are exempt. In unincorporated Larimer County there is no on-street storage program, so oversized vehicles must be kept off the right-of-way; the Land Use Code governs their off-street parking and surfacing on developed lots.
Oversized vehicles on Fort Collins streets are cited and may be towed; the length exclusion for racks and bumpers is written into the code.
