Unincorporated Modoc County has one targeted oversized-vehicle parking rule: Section 10.12.030 makes it unlawful to park any vehicle six feet or more in height along a stretch of State Highway 299 near the Canby fire station. Elsewhere there is no general height or length parking limit, so the California Vehicle Code applies.
Modoc County's code does not impose a county-wide height or length cap on where large vehicles may park, but it does have a specific oversized-vehicle restriction tied to emergency-vehicle access. Modoc County Code Section 10.12.030 makes it unlawful at any time to park or leave standing unattended any vehicle six feet or more in height (including its load) on the south side of State Highway 299, within the state-highway right-of-way, in the town of Canby in front of the fire station and extending 250 feet to the west. The section expressly authorizes removal of violating vehicles under California Vehicle Code Section 22651(n) and provides that a violation is a misdemeanor punishable as set out in California Penal Code Section 19. The county road commissioner must erect and maintain signs giving notice. More broadly, Chapter 10.12 lets the road commissioner designate posted no-parking areas adjacent to buildings housing fire or emergency vehicles (Sections 10.12.010-10.12.020). Outside these posted zones, oversized-vehicle parking on county roads is governed by the California Vehicle Code, including the 72-hour removal rule (Section 22651(k)) and general prohibited-parking locations under Section 22500.
Parking a vehicle six feet or more in height in the signed zone near the Canby fire station violates Modoc County Code Section 10.12.030, is a misdemeanor under California Penal Code Section 19, and the vehicle may be removed under California Vehicle Code Section 22651(n). Outside posted areas, oversized vehicles are subject to standard Vehicle Code parking enforcement.
