New Braunfels bans parking, standing, or storing oversized vehicles - including RVs - on residential streets and on private property in residential districts (Chapter 126). The ordinance targets vehicles over 20,000 pounds or longer than 22 feet, wider than 8 feet, or taller than 8 feet, with an exception for brief loading and unloading.
New Braunfels restricts where large recreational and commercial vehicles may be kept, under Chapter 126 (Traffic and Vehicles). City Council expanded the rules (Ordinance 2019-78) to add RVs to the list of vehicles banned from parking on residential streets. As adopted, the ordinance applies to 'oversized vehicles' - generally those that weigh more than 20,000 pounds or are longer than 22 feet, wider than 8 feet, or taller than 8 feet. It is unlawful to park, stand, or store any such oversized vehicle on private premises (or private streets, alleys, parkways, vacant lots, or public places) within a residential district of the city. The ordinance includes an exception allowing these vehicles to stop for the purpose of expeditiously loading and unloading. When the rule was expanded, the city included a 90-day grace period to give owners time to make other arrangements. Because boats, boat trailers, and travel trailers are common in this river-recreation community, owners should measure their vehicle/trailer against the length, width, height, and weight thresholds, and confirm current Chapter 126 provisions and any exceptions with the city before storing an RV, boat, or trailer at a residence or on the street. Off-site or screened storage may be required for vehicles that exceed the limits.
Parking, standing, or storing an oversized vehicle (over 20,000 lbs, or longer than 22 ft / wider than 8 ft / taller than 8 ft) on a residential street or residential-district private property violates Chapter 126 and can result in a citation. Brief loading/unloading is excepted.
