On unincorporated county streets, the controlling rule is Yuba County Ordinance Code Section 9.10.530: no vehicle may be parked on a street or alley for more than 72 consecutive hours. The county right-of-way may not be used as a storage area. State Vehicle Code rules on prohibited locations also apply.
Street parking on county-maintained roads in the unincorporated area is governed by Title IX (Vehicle Traffic Roads) of the Yuba County Ordinance Code. Section 9.10.530 (Street storage) provides that no person who owns or controls a vehicle may park it on any street or alley for more than a consecutive period of 72 hours; this includes motor homes, travel trailers and boat trailers. If a vehicle is left standing beyond 72 hours, the Sheriff, a Code Enforcement Officer, or a member of the California Highway Patrol may remove it from the street as permitted by the Vehicle Code. The county's published guidance adds that the Yuba County Ordinance Code prohibits using the county right-of-way as a storage area; when a vehicle is found stored there, a 72-hour warning tag is placed and the vehicle is then towed, with all costs assessed against the owner. Beyond these county rules, the California Vehicle Code governs where parking is flatly prohibited: Vehicle Code Section 22500 forbids stopping in front of driveways, on sidewalks, in crosswalks and intersections, and where a vehicle would obstruct traffic or an excavation. Curb-color restrictions follow Vehicle Code Section 21458 wherever the county marks them.
Leaving a vehicle on a county street or alley for more than 72 consecutive hours violates Section 9.10.530 and can lead to a warning tag, citation and removal by the Sheriff, a Code Enforcement Officer or the CHP, with towing costs charged to the owner. Parking in a location prohibited by Vehicle Code Section 22500 (driveways, crosswalks, sidewalks, etc.) is separately enforceable.
