Screened patios and pool enclosures are extremely common in South Florida and must be designed to withstand hurricanes β these require full engineering drawings. Pergolas and gazebos require permits as standalone structures that must resist wind loads. Electrical work on decks and patios (outlets, fans, lighting) requires a separate electrical permit with GFCI protection. Permits are submitted through the county's online portal. The revised fee schedule took effect October 1, 2025. Plan review ranges from 24 hours for simple projects to 10 business days.
