Fences are defined as barriers used for boundary, screening, separation, privacy, protection, or confinement, constructed of wood, plastic, metal, wire mesh, masonry, or similar materials. In residential zones, side and rear yard fences may be up to 6 feet in height. Front yard fences are generally limited to 4 feet. Chain-link fences may have additional restrictions in certain zoning districts. Privacy fences (solid wood, vinyl, composite) are allowed in rear and side yards. Corner lot properties have additional restrictions to maintain sight lines at intersections. Pool barrier fences must be at least 48 inches tall with self-closing, self-latching gates per the adopted building code. All fences must be set back from property lines and public rights-of-way as specified in the zoning ordinance.
