Under Clark County Code Title 22 (Building Code), fences and walls 6 feet or less in height are exempt from building permits. Fences exceeding 6 feet require a building permit with plans showing structural adequacy. Clark County Title 30 (Unified Development Code) Section 30.64 governs accessory structures including fences. Standard allowances in residential zones include: up to 6 feet for side and rear yard fences, and typically 3–4 feet for front yard fences (varies by zone). Masonry block walls are extremely common in the Las Vegas Valley, far more so than in most other metro areas, due to the region's wind conditions, lack of moisture (which would degrade wood), and HOA preferences. Many master-planned communities require block walls rather than wood fences.
