Chino Hills requires a free City permit for garage, yard, and rummage sales, limits households to three permits per 12 months with 60 days between them, restricts hours to 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday-Sunday, and regulates signage, with off-site signs billed at $45 each.
The City of Chino Hills regulates garage, yard, and rummage sales and requires a permit. Per the City's Garage Sale page, 'A permit is required for garage, yard, and rummage sales within the City of Chino Hills. Permits are issued free by the City.' A household 'can obtain up to three permits per any twelve-month period,' with 'at least 60 days between each permit,' and each permit is valid for 'up to three consecutive days or two consecutive two-day weekends.' Sales 'may be conducted only between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., Friday - Sunday.' For signage, 'The applicant may have one double-faced sign, not to exceed six square feet in area on their property (in the front yard, the sign can be four feet in height),' and signs may be 'posted 24 hours prior to the sale and must be removed immediately following the sale.' Critically, 'No signs shall be placed on City Property. Signs in violation are billed at $45 a sign.' Only the applicant's own personally used property may be sold; new merchandise, boutique items, or goods acquired or consigned for resale are prohibited. These rules are codified in the Chino Hills Municipal Code (the temporary-sales/garage-sale provisions referenced as CHMC 5.04.330). This is a City of Chino Hills program.
Holding a sale without a permit, exceeding three permits per 12 months or the duration/hours limits, or selling prohibited resale merchandise violates City rules. Placing signs on City property results in a $45-per-sign charge, and signs must be removed immediately after the sale.
