San Bernardino County has no countywide snow-clearing ordinance, but mountain communities (Big Bear, Lake Arrowhead, Crestline) customarily expect owners to keep walkways passable.
Unlike many northern states, San Bernardino County does not have a general ordinance requiring property owners to shovel sidewalks after snowfall. However, in the mountain communities of the San Bernardino National Forest โ Big Bear Lake (incorporated, separate rules), Big Bear City, Lake Arrowhead, Running Springs, Crestline, Blue Jay, Sky Forest, Twin Peaks, and Wrightwood โ snow events of 6 inches to several feet are common from November through March, and local HOAs often require owner snow clearing. County Public Works maintains snow plowing on county-maintained mountain roads, including Rim of the World Highway (SR-18) and SR-38, but owner driveways and private streets are not plowed by the county. During major storms, the Department of Public Works activates snow-response crews; contact (909) 387-7800 for road-closure information. Property owners whose vehicles are on streets during snow removal may be cited or towed under winter parking restrictions.
Generally no countywide citation for uncleared sidewalks. Parking during snow removal: vehicle may be plowed in or towed. HOA enforcement in mountain subdivisions is separate from county code.
