Alameda County property maintenance rules require trash, recycling, and compost bins to be stored out of public view except during the collection window.
Alameda County Code requires residents in unincorporated areas to store waste containers in a manner that prevents them from being visible from the public right-of-way between collection days. Acceptable storage locations include garages, side yards behind fencing or gates, backyards, or screened enclosures. Bins may be placed curbside no earlier than noon the day before collection and must be removed within 24 hours. Bins must have closed lids to prevent odors, vector attraction, and debris dispersal. Violations are enforced by the Code Enforcement Division and can generate warnings followed by citations. Call (510) 670-5320 for complaints.
