Baltimore regulates trash container storage and placement, requiring bins to be placed curbside only on collection days and stored out of public view at other times under the city's sanitation code.
Trash containers must be placed at the curb no earlier than the evening before the scheduled collection day and must be retrieved by the end of the collection day. Containers must be stored behind the front building line or out of public view when not set out for collection. Baltimore provides city-issued carts for residential trash collection. All trash must be placed in covered, leak-proof containers. Overflowing or uncovered containers are a violation. Loose trash, bags without containers, or trash placed outside of containers may not be collected and constitutes a violation.
Violations of trash container regulations can result in citations and fines starting at $50 for first offenses, increasing for repeat violations. Persistent violations may result in liens on the property.
