Bernalillo County, NM Property Maintenance: Trash Bin Storage (2026)

The Revised Ordinances of Albuquerque §6-4-1-1 et seq. (Solid Waste Management) and Solid Waste Rules require residential carts to be placed curbside no earlier than 4:00 PM the day before collection and removed from the curb no later than 6:00 PM the day of collection. Between collections, carts must be stored behind the front building line of the dwelling, inside a garage, or in a screened side-yard enclosure not visible from the public street. Lids must fully close; no overflow, yard waste, or construction debris outside carts is accepted. Albuquerque Solid Waste provides three 96-gallon carts (trash, recycle, green waste in enrolled areas) with service funded through monthly utility billing. Bernalillo County unincorporated residents contract with private haulers (e.g., Waste Management, Republic, Sierra) or use the county's contracted service; County Code Chapter 50 (Solid Waste) has comparable screening and set-out timing rules. Illegal dumping on vacant lots or arroyos is a separate offense under NMSA §30-8-4 (Illegal Dumping) and ABQ §9-8-3-1 with fines starting at $300 and potential misdemeanor charges.
