In Lincoln every real-estate owner must cut weeds or worthless vegetation whenever it grows more than six inches above the ground (LMC 8.46.010). Owners get about five days after notice to comply or the city mows and bills them. Unincorporated county land follows the Nebraska Noxious Weed Act.
Lincoln Municipal Code 8.46.010 makes it every real-estate owner's duty to cut and clear all weeds or worthless vegetation whenever it extends more than six inches above the ground, including the abutting half of streets and alleys, and to remove the cut material. The Weed Control Office (jointly run by Lincoln and Lancaster County) issues a notice giving owners roughly five days to act before the city or its contractor mows and assesses the cost as a lien. Complaints go to weeds@lancaster.ne.gov or 402-441-7817. On unincorporated county land the Nebraska Noxious Weed Control Act (Neb. Rev. Stat. 2-945.01+) governs instead.
If weeds over six inches are not cut after notice, the city or its contractor cuts them and the cost is assessed against the property, typically as a lien; noncompliance can also be prosecuted under Chapter 8.46.
