In unincorporated St. Lucie County, grass, weeds, brush and overgrowth taller than 12 inches are prohibited and must be trimmed below 12 inches, including the adjoining right-of-way.
St. Lucie County Code Sec. 38-28 declares excessive growth of grass, weeds and brush a nuisance and sets a hard 12-inch ceiling: overgrowth exceeding 12 inches in height is prohibited and must be trimmed below 12 inches. Owners must also control overgrowth on the portion of the adjoining public right-of-way between their property and the paved or graded street. Mature native Florida vegetation is exempt. After a notice of violation, the owner has 20 days to cut; if not, the county mows and assesses the cost as a lien. Port St. Lucie applies the same 12-inch standard through its Property Maintenance Code.
Owner gets 20 days to trim after notice; the county may mow and recover the cost plus administrative fees as a non-ad valorem assessment lien.
