Kansas requires each licensed food establishment to have at least one Certified Food Protection Manager on staff. Wichita does not require individual food handler cards, but Sedgwick County Health Department recommends ANSI-accredited training for line workers.
Under the Kansas Food Code, every retail food establishment must employ at least one Certified Food Protection Manager who has passed an ANSI-CFP accredited examination such as ServSafe, Prometric, or 360training. The certificate is valid for five years and must be on file at the establishment. Unlike some states, Kansas does not mandate individual food-handler cards for non-supervisory staff. Sedgwick County Health Department, however, encourages all food workers to complete a basic food-safety training course. Wichita has not enacted a local ordinance imposing additional food-handler licensing on top of state rules.
Lacking a Certified Food Protection Manager is a critical violation under the Kansas Food Code and can prompt a follow-up inspection within 30 days plus possible license action.
