Edmond, OK Rental Property Rules: Rental Registration (2026)

Oklahoma County does not impose countywide rental registration. Individual municipalities take varying approaches. Oklahoma City maintains a voluntary landlord registry through the Development Services Department but has no mandatory rental registration or proactive inspection program for single-family rentals. Hotels, motels, and multifamily buildings over 4 units require business licenses under OKC §16-1. Edmond Code §10-81 (Rental Property Registration Ordinance, 2010) requires annual registration of all rental properties — single-family, duplex, and multifamily — with a $50 per property annual fee. Edmond conducts exterior inspections and responds to complaints. Registered properties must maintain smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors on furnace levels, and meet habitability standards. Midwest City does not require registration but enforces property maintenance through complaint-driven inspections under Midwest City Code §34. Del City and Bethany follow similar complaint-driven approaches. State law 11 O.S. §22-111.1 allows municipalities to require rental registration but prohibits registries that collect tenant information.
