Oceanside's STR ordinance Chapter 24 establishes the regulatory framework for short-term rentals including any applicable night limitations. The city tightened STR rules in 2024 including requiring permits for most STR properties.
Oceanside adopted significant STR regulation updates effective June 7, 2024. Chapter 24 and Chapter 34 Article III of the city code establish the rules for STR operations. An STR Permit is required for all STR properties unless the unit is part of a gated HOA with at least 50 units that meets parking requirements and has 24-hour security or on-site management. The city restricts STRs to one per property owner for primary and non-primary residences. The regulations were adopted to balance tourism revenue with residential neighborhood quality of life. Contact the Financial Services Department for current night cap details and permit requirements.
Operating an STR without a required permit is a violation subject to fines and potential criminal penalties.
